Our Program

For the love of Recovery

Program Objectives:

  • To love individuals without judgments or agendas. We believe that with healthy boundaries, love can change and empower people to become the best version of themselves.

  • Facilitate the path to recovery by providing clear access to Cherokee Nation programs and support to those going into treatment centers as well as provide support to the affected families.

  • Support clients before, during and after they go through in-patient treatment.

  • Establish peer relationship and identify ways to clear obstacles between clients and their recovery goals.

  • Facilitate ongoing weekly meetings in the form of Wellbriety Circles, offering clients the opportunity to learn and become more connected through cultural teachings.

“The Peaceful Warrior’s Way provided a loving environment without judgment and supported me tremendously in my recovery.”

— Kevin Kelly

Program Overview

  • Founded in June of 2020 under a TOR (Tribal Opioid Response) grant and contracted by Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health to serve 14 counties within the Cherokee Nation reservation.

  • Coordinate with multiple departments in Cherokee Nation, assisting clients in finding the necessary help to ensure their overall wellbeing.

  • Career Services has aided us in reaching a 59% employment rate for clients who are actively meeting with us.

  • We work with the clients’ families in establishing boundaries and make referrals to community resources.

  • Quarterly Wellbriety gathering which has had over 80 attendees in the past. Our next quarterly gathering will be on 3/18/2023

  • Offer cultural teaching as medicine including: drum circles, traditional crafts and an in-house meditation room.

  • Partnered with Tahlequah Mayor and City Administrator to develop plans for providing shelter to the growing homeless population, and to provide insight to mitigate recidivism in both homelessness and the criminal legal system.

  • Established relationships with community coalitions to collect winter gear and a small food pantry for the low income community. Distribution has resulted in some becoming clients and seeking recovery.
